The rage of compact sedans started with the launch of Honda Amaze in the year 2013. Although Maruti already had Swift Dzire in its portfolio since 2008, no one bothered to enter the segment. After the launch of Amaze, Hyundai also introduced its Xcent and finally, Ford also jumped in the competition with Aspire sedan. Though Ford took time to react to this segment, it has tried to offer a best possible package in this category.
Launched in August 2015, Ford Aspire is one of the most practical as well as efficient cars in the segment. It is one such car from Ford’s portfolio that perfectly suits the Indian taste. And this can be seen in the fact that the car has been designed from scratch. Based on the ‘One Ford Strategy’ Aspire shares its design cues with many other new-gen vehicles such as EcoSport and Fiesta. Ford has recently pulled the wraps off its upcoming Aspire 2018, the updated model will be coming to Indian market soon. The facelift version will get a major overhaul inside and out along with some mechanical updates.
The current Aspire is based on the kinetic design and looks very premium. On the front, the car features Aston-Martin inspired four-slat chromed radiator grille, prominent bonnet and large swept-back headlights. The side part comes with attractive 14-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels and integrated ORVMs. At the rear, the car is very neatly designed along with chromed diffuser on the rear bumper and large tail lamp cluster.
The Sports Edition hosts a number of alteration including black fishnet grille, smoked swept back headlamps, revised bumper, sporty decals and 15-inch black alloy wheels. Ford Aspire is offered in 7 vibrant colours such as Absolute Black, Sparkling Gold, Smoke Grey, Ruby Red, Oxford White, Moondust Silver and Deep Impact Blue.
The interior of the car is done in dual tone beige and black. Dashboard gets the all-black theme while the rest is adorned in beige. The top-end variant gets first in class leather seat covers that make it look plush. Other than this, the vehicle host quite a wide array of comfort features such as Ford’s SYNC technology and AppLink entertainment unit along with voice command system. Automatic climate control, MyKey customizable driving key, electric power steering, AC vents and height adjustable driver seat are other oomph aspects. The Sports variant comes in all-black cabin with fog-grey stitching on the upholstery and leather-wrapped steering.
In terms of specifications, Ford Aspire is available in three different engine options; a 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5L TDCi diesel, and 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol. The 1.2L petrol mill is capable of generating power output of 88PS and peak torque of 112Nm. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. The power 1.5L Ti-VCT powertrain can produce 110PS and belts out 136Nm of peak torque and comes with segment first 6-speed dual clutch automatic. Then there is 1.5L TDCi diesel oil burner capable of producing 100PS of power output and maximum torque of 215Nm.
The American automaker is known for providing world-class safety and Aspire remains no exception. The compact sedan is loaded with features such as dual front airbags and ABS as standard across the range. The top spec models get six airbags, ESP, traction control and hill assist.
Ford Aspire is available in four different variants namely Ambiente, Trend, Titanium and Titanium+. As per the pricing, its base trim Ambiente is tagged at Rs. 5.71 lakh for the petrol trim and Rs. 6.83 lakh for diesel trim. The top spec model has been priced at Rs. 7.35 lakh from the petrol variant and Rs. 8.46 lakh for the diesel trim. Its Titanium model with automatic is offered at the price tag of Rs. 8.69 lakh while the top-selling trim 1.2 Ti-VCT Titanium is available at the price tag of Rs. 6.64 lakh, ex-showroom, New Delhi.
Ford Aspire entered the segment quite late but managed to make some space with its unique appeal. It currently locks horns with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Tata Tigor, and Hyundai Xcent in the segment.

Ford Figo’s cabin goes in line with its recent design philosophy. The cabin is decorated in dual beige and black scheme with the dashboard housing a uniquely designed V-shaped centre console that houses the infotainment screen and ac vents. Above that lies an outstandingly carved out mobile dock that really looks premium. The dock allows USB and Aux connectivity that makes it more special. The sculpted steering wheel and the binnacles of the modern instrument cluster look pleasing to eyes.
The car scores some brownie points when it comes to storage. The 20 storage spaces make us wonder how much thought process the engineers have given while designing the cabin. The car houses huge glovebox, plenty of small cubbyholes, two bottle holders, and three cup-holders besides a large 359L boot. In terms of seating, the sporty front seats offer ample level of comfort including good lumbar support. Come to the rear and you will see one of the best in class seats which offer excellent space, thanks to the well-sculpted front seats.
Ford Aspire comes with oodles of gadgetry one would expect in this class of sedan. The car features Bluetooth telephony, music system with phone controls as well as steering mounted audio controls, all creating a perfect ambience of technology and practicality. Another interesting aspect of the car is Ford MyKey which is basically a system that controls settings such as volume, speed limit and reminding you of your seatbelts. The car comes with advanced voice activated SYNC infotainment system allowing you to handle call, text, listen to favourite songs as well as assisting you in emergency services in case of any mishap. The system is also compatible with Bluetooth, USB, Aux-in and powered by 4 speakers, two each at the front and the rear.
Other aspects of the car include automatic climate control, fabric or leather seat upholstery, height adjustable driver seat, 12V power socket, boot lamp, steering mounted audio controls, driver side one-touch power window and electric boot release. Although there is plenty of comfort and convenience, still the car needs features such as rear parking camera, start-stop button and ambient lighting system to stay in the competition.

The Aspire sedan is one of the most handsome looking cars in its class. And that looks comes from the Aston Martin esque grille draped in chrome showing the typical Ford design philosophy. The clean crispy lines on the nose are nothing short of impressive. The large headlamps, sharp cut lines on the bonnet and the aggressive chin further enhance the front profile.
Coming to the side profile, it’s been nicely fashioned and smartly uses the waistline to break up the weight of the car. The wheel arches are slightly flared up while the 14-inch alloy wheels look puny, pulling off the enthusiasm which is seen at the front.
However, the elegance continues at the rear with well-layered and flat boot-lid along with a nice combination of the bumper. Further, the large chrome strip running across the boot has been placed to attract the attention of the typical Indian customer. Overall, the Ford Aspire is a unique looking sedan when it comes to attractiveness which was lacking in the segment for a long time.

Mileage Running Cost

Ford has peeled off the weight in favour of better fuel efficiency. And that can be seen in the fact that the diesel version is capable of returning ARAI certified mileage of 25.83kmpl. And this is really a mind blowing thing especially for a newcomer in the segment. The diesel variant buyer will surely be pleased with the real world mileage.
While petrol automatic is slightly low on fuel economy at 17kmpl, the manual one delivers 18.16kmpl.

Comfort Suspension

The carmaker has always tweaked suspension in its vehicles to be stiffer among the peers. The comfort centric design can be reflected in the cabin. The passenger will not notice any bounciness and the car holds the ground on unfavourable terrain quite delicately. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it’s one of the best riders in the segment.
The bumps are brushed off so well that the passenger will stop noticing any dents on the roads.

Engine Performance

The car is available in three engine options, so there is no dearth of choice. Starting with the petrol line-up, the 1.2L Ti-VCT engine is capable of developing 88PS and 112Nm of torque, mated to 5-speed manual transmission. The powerful 1.5L from the same Ti-VCT family produces 110PS and max torque throughput of 136Nm. This motor comes mated to dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel Aspire, on the other hand, gets the 1.5L TDCi motor that makes 100PS and 215Nm of torque. This one too is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. All these engines are familiar to the one who have driven Ford vehicles such as EcoSport and Fiesta. The 1.5L diesel is certainly a big surprise in the lot that brings positive effect on the performance as a result of good power and low weight. The acceleration is also strong. The 1.2L is an improved version with better throttle response, but the need for power can be demanding on open roads.

Braking Safety

The braking offers excellent bite while the behaviour is also predictable. Ford Aspire when first introduced in the market seems to act like a brand ambassador or pioneer of creating new safety standards. It wrote a new chapter in the segment for being high on safety standards. The car came with dual front airbags and ABS as standard. This has inspired many other manufacturers to offer high safety features in their cars.
Still, Ford Aspire holds a prominent position in the segment with the top end model getting 6-airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), traction control system (TCS) and hill launch assist. The car also features keyless entry, engine immobilizer, Ford MyKey and emergency assistance system.
