Overview

The Jaguar XF was launched in 2008 and was recieved fairly well. In 2012 Jaguar has launched the face-lifted version of the XF with new design tweaks. In terms of looks, the sleek headlights bejewelled with the LEDs in a J-shape do the job of lending aggression while the chrome mesh grille in the centre gives the car its amazing classic character. Its swooping roof-line that gels into the boot lid seamlessly has its own charm. At the rear are the tail-lights that sharply extend on to the boot lid.

The cabin has an excellent combination of aluminium finish, wood trim and leather in the right proportion and in the right places, speaking of elegance in the best manner possible. The dashboard is clean and free from clutter of buttons or controls. Air-conditioner and music controls have been placed on the centre wall, which also plays host to the gear selector dial. The only issue we came across in the XF S was for the rear seat passengers, who have a little less headroom due to the coupé like roof-line and also little visibility through the windows.

Under the hood of the XF S is a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged oil burner that produces 275 PS of peak power at 4,000 revs and a highly exciting 600 Nm of torque at just 2,000 RPM. The V6 has a variable geometry turbocharger that does the duty all the time while the smaller fixed geometry remains unused. The secondary turbo kicks in only after 2,800 RPM to give the extra punch.

Coming back to the performance of the XF S, 600 Nm and 275 PS are class-leading figures that translate into 8.03 seconds for a run from standstill to 100 km/h. Furthermore, this Jaguar does a quarter mile in 15.59 seconds and goes on until 250 km/h, where its speed has been electronically limited. The V6 has been mated to a six-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. The XF is also available in petrol with ahuge 5.0 litre V8 developing 275 PS and is very quick indeed! The petrol is a V8 and of course it sips fuel, you will get about 5-6 kmpl. The diesel is more efficient and makes more sense with a fuel economy of 9-11 kmpl which is very good for such a big car!

In the ‘D’ mode, the Jaguar XF S is a typical luxury saloon with a lightly weighted steering. For those who really crave for high-end performance as regards handling and cornering abilities, there is an additional Dynamics Pack available as an option on the XF S. The Adaptive Dynamics offered in this pack can be activated with a button on the centre wall near the rotary selector dial.

The Jaguar XF is priced at 59.5 lakhs to Rs 74.2 lakhs ex-showroom, including the sporty XFR. This is clearly for someone who wants style and luxury and also for someone who will drive himself and not be driven  Now Jaguar Land Rover is commencing production of the Jaguar XF saloon at its facility in Pune, India. The initial Pune-built Jaguar XF models will feature the company’s acclaimed 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is coming to the Indian market for the first time. The Jaguar XF receives a new 2.2-litre diesel engine, with an entry price of 44.5 lacs. To read a detailed analysis read below!

Interior

There is whole lot of craftsmanship inside the Jag that will make anyone go weak in the knees.

An interesting feature seen here are the a-c vents, which open up in a rotational movement, and the gear selector rotary dial that pops out when the keyless ignition button is pressed. The Jaguar’s wide-open mouth on the steering wheel continuously reminds you what you are driving. The instrument cluster is backlit in turquoise and so is the lighting in the cabin that offers an extremely soothing ambience.

Mileage Running Cost

  • City Fuel Economy

Jaguar XF is a big sedan with a sports car heart so don’t expect a lot of mileage from it

  • Highway Fuel Economy

Highway fuel economy is pretty much average is such a big car like this.

  • Arai Rated Economy

ARAI rated fuel economy of the jaguar is about 13.53 Kmpl.

  • Tank Range

Jaguar drinks a lot of fuel and the tank and fuel indicator should be kept in mind before setting out for a long journey.

Comfort Suspension

In the ‘D’ mode, the Jaguar XF S is a typical luxury saloon with a lightly weighted steering and a soft suspension. This, on everyday drives as well as on long highway journeys, turns out to be the comfortable way of being on wheels. However, those looking for a little more sportiness from their saloon have the option of shifting to the ‘S’ mode that offers a stiffer suspension set-up, heavier steering, quicker gearshift and more revving.

Comfort and Suspension

  • Comfort

The low coupe-like roof also means rear comfort is not as much a priority as in some of the Jag's competitors. Comfort levels though are only noticeably poorer in comparison and this is a good car to be chauffeured around in, just not the best.

  • Front Suspension

Jaguar uses McPherson struts with aluminum lower wishbone which can handle any potholes with ease.

  • Rear Suspension

Jaguar has 4link suspension with separate spring shock absorber arrangement.

Engine Performance

Under the hood of the XF S is a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbocharged oil burner that produces 275 PS of peak power at 4,000 revs and a highly exciting 600 Nm of torque at just 2,000 RPM. The twin turbocharger used by Jaguar in the XF S is different from what the others use. The V6 has a variable geometry turbocharger that does the duty all the time while the smaller fixed geometry remains unused. The secondary turbo kicks in only after 2,800 RPM to give the extra punch. This way, the V6 makes its own contribution towards better fuel efficiency.

The XF also gets the 2.2 i4 Td and this variant offers 190PS with a torque measure of 450Nm.

Engine Performance

  • In Gear Acceleration

The Jaguar XF S can reach between 40-60 in 1.48 seconds and 80-100 in 2.42 seconds.

  • Gearbox

The new XF offers a 6-speed automatic transmission. This transmission gives smoother gear changes and constantly adapts to suit the style of driving. In addition, drivers seeking greater involvement have the option of changing gears manually, with paddles behind the steering wheel.

  • Power

The version of the 3.0 Litre V6 Diesel engine available for the new XF is the high-performance 275PS Diesel S. The engine is available with a six-speed automatic transmission and provides immediate response, even at low engine speeds, and impressive fuel economy - Power: 275PS

  • Torque

Jaguar XF can produces 600Nm of Torque

  • NVH Levels

Jaguar is a silent car there is not a single amount of noise from the engine even if you push it hard.

Braking Safety

For those who really crave for high-end performance as regards handling and cornering abilities, there is an additional Dynamics Pack available as an option on the XF S. The Adaptive Dynamics offered in this pack can be activated with a button on the centre wall near the rotary selector dial. Once the Adaptive Dynamics is working, it obtains data in terms of speed, steering and general body movement 500 times per second and accordingly does all the necessary adjustments to the suspension to bring out the most precise handling. Also, once in the ‘S’ mode with the Adaptive Dynamics working, the transmission gives you full control of the gearshifts by revving all the way till its 5,000 limiter and stays there until you shift manually with the paddles behind the steering wheel. Without the Dynamic mode activated, the auto ‘box shifts cleverly at approximately 4,000 RPM.

Brakes and Wheels

  • Handling

Jaguars motor immediately impresses with how silently it cruises. And it’s smooth when you pull the car hard as well, the XF showing a surprising turn of foot, despite the motor not having twin turbos. The torque comes in nice and early, gearshifts are all but imperceptible and the motor spins with some amount of enthusiasm on the redline as well. It’s pretty obvious that plenty of work has been carried out to this motor, and the list of improvements is endless.

  • Braking Performance

Jaguar breaks very well it stops from 100km to a standstill in about 2.72 seconds.

  • Safety Features

The XF’s reinforced body shell incorporates new-generation high-strength steels to create a vertical safety ring around the cabin. The XF has two-stage airbags for the driver and front passenger, as well as side and curtain airbags – all controlled by a sensing system that ensures they will only deploy if the seats are occupied. In addition, the seatbelts feature ‘soft landing’ technology to soften the contact with the airbag, and an anti-whiplash system is designed to move the head restraints f

  • Abs
