Maruti Celerio hatchback was launched back in the year 2014 and since its inception, it has played a very important role in strengthening the company’s position in the entry-level hatchback segment. Maruti Celerio was the first ever car to be offered with auto gearshift in the country and for that reason, it has managed to sell over 3 lakh units of the product till date. Recently, the car received its mid-life update in the year 2017. The new Celerio has been updated inside as well as outside with no mechanical changes. Celerio is designed mainly for the city life while it makes the perfect choice for the budget oriented and environmentally aware customers.
On the outside, Celerio makes for the perfect style and class. Its striking looks cast a stunning impression and make it the perfect small car. The vibrant exteriors now feature new grille design and revamped bumper. The swept back headlamps remain the same while the subtle creases on the bonnet and bumper make it look a bit aggressive. The hatchback receives plenty of creases and curves that complement its compact dimensions very well. The rear is quite simple with the exhaust tucked neatly under the bumper while its tail lamps remind us of Alto 800.
Maruti Celerio is offered in 6 different colour options to choose from they are Blazing Red, Silky Silver, Arctic White, Glistening Grey, Tango Orange and Torque Blue.
Coming to its interiors, Maruti Celerio is styled like any other budget cars. The car gets new black and griege upholstery while its seats are very comfy. Driver’s seat is height adjustable while the rear gets 60:40 split seats. The steering wheel is carried from the Swift and gets control switches on it which is quite convenient. The cluster hosts three pod unit; a tachometer, multi-functional display, and a speedometer. The center console of the car has pretty interesting bits such as control for AC and integrated music system that supports USB, Bluetooth, and AUX. Other features include, power windows, rear wash and wipe and keyless entry.
Mechanically, Maruti Celerio is powered by the same 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol mill that churns the power output of 68PS and generates peak torque of 90Nm. While in the CNG variant, the power output is 59PS and maximum torque is 78Nm. The powertrain comes mated to 5-speed manual or AGS gearboxes depending on the variant.
In the safety department, Maruti Celerio is packed with advanced safety features including driver side airbag which comes as the standard feature. The car also gets ABS, engine immobilizer, child safety lock, central locking, rear wipers and turn indicators on ORVMs.
Maruti Celerio is available in three variants LXI, VXI and ZXI along with 3 optional trims LXI (O), VXI(O) and ZXI (O) while AMT is available in VXI AMT and ZXI AMT. The CNG on the other hand, is offered in mid trim VXI. That makes the total of 12 options available. The base trim is priced at Rs. 4.23 lakh while its top spec model is tagged as Rs. 5.42 lakh. CNG trim is available at Rs. 5.33 lakh and the top selling model VXI MT is available at Rs. 4.56 lakh. Maruti Celerio currently locks horns with Hyundai Eon, Datsun Redi-GO and Renault Kwid in the segment.

Get inside the car you will be greeted by a familiar Maruti cabin. The same dual beige and black combination has now tweaked to make a new combination black and griege, which is a mix of grey and beige. The silver accents have been spread through the cabin. The seats also get the same griege colour while the door trim features new design and side air-con vents having silver accents.
The touchscreen infotainment which is the most sought-after things today is still missing, however, you do get a top-notch music system that offers USB, Bluetooth, and Aux-In support. The three-pod instrument cluster features speedometer, tachometer and a multi-function display that gives you all the vehicle info including mileage, distance to empty, etc. The artificial leather-wrapped steering wheel has been picked up from elder sibling Swift. It also houses controls for audio and calls.
Other features in the car include rear parcel shelf, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt-adjustable steering, 60:40 split rear seat split, rear wash/wipe, and a rear defogger.

From outside, the car certainly looks like a grown-up version of Alto. And in fact, in the international market, Celerio is sold as next-gen Alto. The vehicle has been designed to appeal as many folks as possible. The latest version comes with revamped front bumpers and stylish looking grille with chrome garnish on the top and new fog lamp bezels, all that makes a stunning impression. Other elements at the front remain intact including large headlamps and chrome outlining for the fog lamps.
The side profile gets plenty of curves while the 14-inch wheels and ORVM integrated indicators do add to the style quotient. The rear profile this time around, gets revamped bumper design while the wraparound tail lamp adds to the wow factor.

Mileage Running Cost

The engines, as well as a transmission system, have been tuned to provide maximum fuel efficiency. The AMT version clocks ARAI certified fuel economy of 23.1kmpl while the CNG version delivers jaw-dropping mileage of 31.79km/kg.

Comfort Suspension

Like most of the Maruti cars out there, the suspension is on a softer side to offer maximum comfort to the passengers. Maruti Suzuki Celerio absorbs potholes, bumps and other undulations on the road pretty easily. There is hardly a hint of body roll and the car most of the time feel composed.

Engine Performance

The car is powered by the same K10B engine that works in Wagon R. The 998cc engine 3-cylinder engine makes 68PS and 90Nm of max torque in the petrol variant while in the CNG variant, the same engine produces 59PS and 78Nm of torque. The motor is paired with either 5-speed manual or automated manual transmission (AMT), depending on the variant you choose.

Braking Safety

The car’s brake pedal possesses a sharp bite that comes from the ventilated disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back. The vehicle comes to halt cleanly without waves and twisting much. The safety feature list includes driver side airbag and seat belt warning as standard across the range while front passenger side airbag and ABS are optional across the variants. The carmaker has also updated the vehicle to meet the Indian safety regulations in term of pedestrian safety and side impact regulations.

Second Remote Key not provided - Pay extra to get it

Surprised by Maruti's stingy strategy of giving just One Remote Key and expecting us to Pay for Second Key Areas of improvement Maruti must realise that its cars are not branded for just middle class and below middle class people. We buy it because it fits our requirements of small, easy to maintain & drive (especially by our women folk). Read More

22-24 kmpl in traffic - wow car

You have to pay a small price for the excellent fuel economy that the Celerio diesel offers. For a moment if you forget that its a small engine with just 2 cylinders, then you will start loving the car. We have been using the car for 13 days now and inspite of a new engine, I get 23kmpl on my Read More
