Overview

The  Maruti Eeco was launched in 2010 and is a basic means of affordable transport. The exterior of the EECO is more on the lines of the Versa.  The dimensions of the new car are quite similar to the Versa albeit with a revised height. The subtle headlamps with humble little tail lamps make it appear quite decent. Basic comfort is what would appear initially in your mind and you won’t be wrong as the interiors carry the same no frills design as the car’s exteriors. A decent dashboard with A/C controls and vents are in the limelight on the center console along with a humble yet useful speedo that tells you how fast you’re going.  The plastics are of good quality with a fair feel. Cabin space has been utilized in such a way that it makes the EECO a car with loads of headroom, legroom and boot space. It is powered by a 1.2-litre G-Series engine which is a brand new motor from Maruti.

The 1200cc mill develops 75PS of power and 101Nm of torque. You can get a mileage of 16 kmpl and even more with the CNG version! The 1200cc mill develops 75PS of power and 101Nm of torque. This is transferred to the rear wheels via a five-speed gearbox with Diagonal Shift Assist, which the manufacturer claims makes the shifts smoother. Power delivery is quite smooth and the engine is capable of pulling the car nicely even at low speeds in the fifth gear. The McPherson struts up front and a three-link rigid rear suspension is a bit hard, but it is capable of absorbing the bumps and ditches on the road quite well. Thus though comfort is not fantastic, the ride is decent. Ample ground clearance allows you to drive the EECO on rough terrain without worrying much about the underbody of the car getting damaged.

These aspects lend the car a decent handling. It brings affordable travel to several people and the CNG option comes as an affordable kit for budget conscious buyers. Maruti Eeco is priced (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol variant Maruti Eeco 5 Seater Standard at 2.9 lakhs, Maruti Eeco 7 Seater Standard 3.10 lakhs while the top variant petrol is priced at 3.67 lakhs. The CNG variants of the Maruti Eeco are priced from ex-showroom Delhi price of 3.5 lakhs for Maruti Eeco CNG HTR 5 Seater, 3.8 lakhs for the Maruti Eeco Flexi Green and the top variant is priced at 3.9 lakhs for the Maruti Eeco CNG 5 Seater AC. At this price, you get a 1.2-litre engine with adequate power that won’t disappoint you at all, a spacious cabin, comfortable seating, air-conditioning and a huge storage space. Plus, it offers you good drivability. The use of an old-school steering unit, simple bench style seats at the rear, the lack of power windows and a few extra bits has helped Maruti price the EECO competitively. It is ideally suited to individuals who have a large family and are looking for an affordable option. It is also a good alternative for car pooling. For a detailed analysis read below..
