Overview

The Vento was launched in 2010 and it brings contemporary looks and design to the segment. Vento has a slight understated design whose neutral lines and structure will please everyone. The front looks similar to the Polo hot-hatch but Vento brings different fog-lamps and air dam. It has a long wheelbase which gives it an excellent road presence. Inside the new Vento has dual tone dashboard with a mix of beige and brownish grey with some chrome accents thrown in. Vento will comfortably seat 5 passengers and offers spacious cabin with ample leg room and head room. It also has comfortable seats which provide good back support. It has superior German fit and finish levels to its interiors giving a feel of luxury to its occupants. It also brings features such as dual airbags, alloy wheels, climate control, keyless entry, power windows. Though it is not well equipped as its rivals. Volkswagen Vento has two enine options a petrol and diesel. The diesel brings class leading power figures to the C segment.

The 1.6 liter DOHC 4 cylinder diesel engine produces 104 BHP at 4400 RPM and produces a massive torque of 250 NM from 1500 RPM – 2500 RPM. It has outright performance compared to its rival and yet managed to retain decent comfort levels without being too noisy or vibey. The petrol Vento has similar figures of 105 bhp but lacks grunt of diesel. The mileage figures are 12-13 kmpl in city for petrol, and 20 kmpl for diesel. Two gearboxes are available on the Vento- a manual and an automatic. Our choice is the manual as the automatic is slow. Volkswagen Vento offers a decent ride quality which is a little stiff for our roads. It feels very planted and certainly very comfortable at low speeds and manages to go over bad roads without a fuss. The excellent build quality ensures that Vento will eat all the undulations and bumpy roads easily. It handles beautifully on the highway thanks to its finely tuned suspension which the German car maker VW has taken great care when setting up for Indian road conditions. The Vento brings three levels of trim with the best one being the highline.  Prices start at Rs 7.4 lakhs for base petrol to 10.4 lakhs for top diesel whihc makes it a good buy. Comfort Suspension

Volkswagen Vento offers a decent ride quality which is a little stiff for our roads. It feels very planted and certainly very comfortable at low speeds and manages to go over bad roads without a fuss. The excellent build quality ensures that Vento will eat all the undulations and bumpy roads easily.

Comfort and Suspension

  • Comfort

Volkswagen has paid attention to detail – for example, the way the front passenger seat can be moved forward by a lever from the rear seat (it’s such a clever feature, we wonder why no one else thought of it yet). Speaking of which, the Vento’s rear seats are really comfortable. There’s good thigh support and the bench is wide making three-up travelling quite comfortable. The front seats, like all VW’s seats are supportive and have good bolstering.

  • Front Suspension

Vento handles potholes with ease it uses McPherson strut with stabiliser bar at the front

  • Rear Suspension

Vento uses semi independent trailing arm at the back.

Engine Performance

Volkswagen Vento Diesel is brings class leading power figures to the C segment. The 1.6 liter DOHC 4 cylinder diesel engine produces 104 BHP at 4400 RPM and produces a massive torque of 250 NM from 1500 RPM – 2500 RPM. These power and torque figures make it an absolute joy to drive in the city and a screamer down the highway. It has outright performance compared to its rival and yet managed to retain decent comfort levels without being too noisy or vibey. This powerful engine is mated to a 5 speed gear box.

Engine Performance

  • Acceleration

India gets two engines – a 1.6-litre 105bhp petrol and a 1.6-litre 105bhp diesel. Both engines come with a 5-speed manual or you can opt for a six-speed auto in the spark ignition engine. They do the job, but don’t feel sporty or particularly quick. It reaches 0-100 in about 15.42 seconds and the other one in about 11.42 seconds

  • Top Speed

Vento has a top speed of about 186kmph.

  • In Gear Acceleration

Volkswagen Vento can reach between 40 - 60 in 5.15 seconds in 3rd gear and 80 to 100 in 4.75 seconds.

  • Gearbox

Vento gets a regular torque converter transmission rather than VW’s sophisticated twin-clutch DSG box. The auto, like the manual is rather nice when you’re not in a hurry. Gearshifts are smooth, the ratios seem well chosen and there’s no fuss

  • Power

    Vento has 1598cc engine which generates 158ps of power @ 5250rpm and 1598cc engine produces 105ps t 6000rpm.

  • Torque

    1598 cc produces 153nm of torque @3800rpm and 1598cc produces 153nm @3800rpm

  • NVH Levels

When you rev it past 4000rpm, it gets quite vocal and starts making noises lightly.

Braking Safety

It handles beautifully on the highway thanks to its finely tuned suspension which the German car maker VW has taken great care when setting up for Indian road conditions. Enthusiasts will love driving this car as it offers very good feedback from its electronic power steering. It brings ABS + EBD to help slow it down from the insanely fast speeds it is capable of achieving.

Brakes and Wheels

  • Handling

The Vento is a predictable, safe handler and the steering is tuned to be easy to twirl in traffic. It’s also pretty middle of the road when it comes to the twist’s. The steering is reasonably accurate and there’s good grip from the tyres. There’s a bit of body roll, but it’s not too bad. Where the Vento scores is its ride, which takes all but the worst bumps in its stride.

  • Braking Performance

Vento uses Ventilated Discs at the front and drums at the rear it stops from 100km to 0 within 4.74seconds

  • Safety Features

Vento has ABS and two airbags.

  • Abs

Vento has an option of ABS

  • Traction Control

Vento has no option for Traction control in the car.
